I Collected Every Dragon Heart in Elden Ring So You Don’t Have To
Elden Ring Dragon Hearts guide: find all locations and unlock powerful Dragon Communion Incantations with these rare, coveted items.
Okay, confession time: I have spent more hours hunting dragons in the Lands Between than I have sleeping, and as of 2026, my Tarnished legs still hurt. Dragon Hearts are the Lands Between’s most dramatic consumable—if you’re a normal NPC, they’re just a weird souvenir; if you’re a Tarnished with a dragon communion habit, they’re currency for some of the most unhinged spells in Elden Ring. There are twenty-three obtainable Dragon Hearts total, but you only need twenty to unlock every Dragon Communion Incantation. Some dragons hand over multiple hearts, some drop exactly none, and honestly, the ones that don’t drop hearts are just being rude.

What Do Dragon Hearts Actually Do?
You don’t just snack on these bad boys—well, you might, but I don’t recommend it. Instead, you exchange them at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Limgrave or the Church of Dragon Communion in Caelid for Dragon Communion Incantations. These are the spicy spells like Agheel’s Flame, Borealis’s Mist, and the infamous Rotten Breath that turns your exhale into a war crime.
Here’s the fun part: not all dragon spells cost the same number of hearts. The pricing scheme is basically a cosmic joke. Some examples:
| Incantation | Dragon Hearts Required |
|---|---|
| Magma Breath | 1 |
| Greyoll’s Roar | 3 |
| Most basic Dragon Communion spells | 1–2 |
So yeah, Greyoll’s Roar might make you feel like a dragon god, but it also wants three whole hearts. That’s not a purchase; that’s a subscription.
The Full Shopping List: Every Dragon Heart Drop
I broke this down by region because wandering Caelid at level 20 is how you end up as a snack. Don’t @ me.
Limgrave 🐉
- Flying Dragon Agheel – chilling in Agheel Lake. Drops ×1 Dragon Heart. Agheel thinks he’s the main character. He is not.
Liurnia of the Lakes 🌊
-
Glintstone Dragon Smarag – unnamed rocky island southwest of the Crystalline Woods. Drops ×1.
-
Glintstone Dragon Adula – Cathedral of Manus Sellus. Drops ×3 Dragon Hearts. Yes, three. She was clearly hoarding.
-
Three unnamed Glintstone Dragons – northwest of Deep Ainsel Well. Each drops ×1, so that’s three hearts if you feel like committing dragon genocide.
Caelid 🦠
-
Magma Wyrm – Gael Tunnel. Drops ×1.
-
Decaying Ekzykes – northwest of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. Drops ×1. He’s a walking biohazard, but the heart is valid.
-
Elder Dragon Greyoll – west of Fort Faroth. Drops ×5 Dragon Hearts. This big sleeping lady is basically a dragon heart piñata.
-
Flying Dragon Greyll – Farum Greatbridge. Drops ×1.
By this point my map looked like a conspiracy board, so here’s a visual for you:

Altus Plateau ⚔️
-
Magma Wyrm Makar – Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Drops ×1.
-
Magma Wyrm – magma pool south of Fort Laied. Drops ×1.
-
Unnamed Magma Wyrm – below Temple of Eiglay. Drops ×1.
Mountaintops of the Giants ❄️
-
Great Wyrm Theodorix – north of Albinaurics Rise. Drops ×3 Dragon Hearts. He’s big, grumpy, and surprisingly generous.
-
Borealis, the Freezing Fog – Freezing Lake. Drops ×1. Much harder than Greyoll, but only gives one heart? That’s just bad customer service.

Dragons That Refuse to Pay Rent
Not every dragon is polite enough to drop a Dragon Heart. Some unnamed dragon mobs in northern Caelid and Farum Azula will fight you for free, which is honestly disrespectful. Then there are the famous ones:
-
Ancient Dragon Lansseax – does a whole lightning show, no heart. Rude.
-
Lichdragon Fortissax – too busy being a lich to drop a heart.
-
Dragonlord Placidusax – a literal dragonlord outside of time, and still won’t part with a heart? The audacity.
Also, Dragonkin are not considered full dragons in Elden Ring, so they don’t drop Dragon Hearts either. I guess they need to fill out an application first. Anyway, moving on.
So there you have it. Twenty-three hearts, twenty needed, and a whole lot of scaly entitlement. Go get those incantations, Tarnished—and maybe bring a friend for Greyoll.
