My journey through the Lands Between was already filled with wonders, but nothing quite prepared me for the moment I stumbled into the depths of the Ainsel River. It was 2026, years after my initial adventures, and I was re-exploring the familiar shores of Liurnia, seeking secrets I might have missed. That's when I found it again—the old, forgotten well, guarded by a silent stone Golem. Stepping onto that arcane lift felt like descending into another world entirely, a vast underground river system teeming with forgotten life and lurking dangers. The air grew cool and damp, and the only sounds were the distant drip of water and the skittering of unseen things. This is the story of my exploration, a tale of giant ants, ancient ruins, and a titanic lightning-wreathed foe.
Finding the Entrance

The journey began in eastern Liurnia of the Lakes. From the Eastern Tableland Site of Grace, I made my way north until I saw the imposing structure. A lone Golem stood sentinel. I remembered its weakness from my past travels; a few well-placed strikes to its legs brought the colossal construct crashing down, allowing me a clear path to the well's entrance. Inside the simple stone building, the lift awaited.
The Well Depths and Ant Tunnels

The descent was long and silent. When the lift finally settled, I found myself in an immense, echoing cavern. To my immediate right was the Ainsel River Well Depths Site of Grace—a welcome sight. The cavern branched in two directions. To the right, a water-filled tunnel led to a dead end and a lone corpse. The real path, however, lay to the left, a tunnel ominously surrounded by the husks of Giant Ants.
I ventured in cautiously. The ants weren't individually tough, but their tactics were nasty. 😨 One sprayed a corrosive acid that seeped right through my guard, while another tried to grapple me with terrifying strength. Using Glintstone Pebbles, I picked them off from a distance. The tunnels twisted, with more ants waiting in hollows or dangling from the ceiling, ready to drop on unsuspecting travelers.
I found a Grace Mimic on a corpse—a cruel trick of the world—and soon entered a larger chamber filled with broken tombs. Here, the path split again. The right tunnel slopes upward into the Uhl Palace Ruins, leading to a balcony overlooking a deeper part of the cavern. Before taking the lift down from there, I discovered a hidden cave to the left, which held the Ainsel River Sluice Gate Site of Grace.
Navigating the Ruins and the Egg Chamber

The Uhl Ruins introduced me to the Claymen. These slow, silent humanoids came in different forms:
-
Spear-wielders who thrust and threw bolas.
-
Daggers-users who favored a surprising rolling attack.
-
Spell-casters who conjured slow, explosive orbs of energy.
While slow, they were numerous. I had to be careful not to get surrounded.
Meanwhile, the left tunnel from the tomb room wound into a truly disturbing sight: a chamber full of pulsating egg sacs. Five ants hung from the ceiling, and in the center was a massive, bloated ant with an enormous abdomen. I knew what to do. A single, powerful strike felled the creature, rewarding me with a Golden Rune (10) and a Rune Arc. The reward was great, but so was the consequence—the five ceiling ants descended in a furious swarm! 🐜 After a frantic battle, I pressed on, eventually emerging onto a higher ledge in the Uhl Ruins, where I found a Smithing Stone (4) and a precious Celestial Dew.
The Downstream Peril and the Malformed Star

From the main Uhl Ruins chamber, two paths led onward. Going straight ahead brought me into a vast, ruin-strewn cavern. It was teeming with Claymen, but the real threat loomed above. Hanging from the ceiling at the far end was a Malformed Star, a grotesque, ant-like abomination. Once it spotted me, it began launching volleys of magical rocks. I had to dart between crumbling pillars and walls for cover, using the scenery as my shield.
To reach it, I had to backtrack and take the rightmost tunnel, which let me climb onto a toppled column. From this higher vantage point, I could engage the creature more safely. Beneath its perch was a small chamber housing a Hermit Merchant and, crucially, the Ainsel River Map Piece. Scattered throughout the ruins were more treasures: Golden Runes and Smithing Stones for the diligent explorer.
After dealing with the Star, I headed to the watery tunnel on the left, finding the Ainsel River Downstream Site of Grace. The path ahead was grisly, littered with devoured corpses and more ants. Among the detritus, I discovered an Immunizing Horn Charm, a talisman that would bolster my resistance to poison and rot.
The tunnel forked again. The left branch was a gauntlet of Basilisks—those infamous frog-like creatures that exhale a deadly, instant-killing mist. 😱 I encountered them in ones and twos, sidestepping their gas clouds to deliver quick kills. At the tunnel's end, a Somber Smithing Stone (3) awaited on a corpse, and I caught a chilling glimpse of the fabled Lake of Rot, though the path was sealed.
The Climactic Battle: Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella

Choosing the right fork, I entered the grand, solemn halls of the Nokstella Palace Ruins. The architecture was breathtaking, all pale stone and eternal stillness. But the stillness was broken as I progressed. A deep tremor shook the room, and from the shadows, the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella arose. A spectral barrier sealed the exit; there would be no retreat.
The boss was a titan of ancient magic and metal. Its first phase was all about colossal physical power:
-
Earth-shaking slams with its massive fists.
-
Thundering charges across the arena.
-
A deafening roar that could stagger me, leaving me open for a follow-up strike.
My strategy was simple: stay by its legs, dodging the well-telegraphed attacks and hacking away at its limbs. It was a dance of patience.

The real challenge began when its health dropped below 60%. The air crackled with ozone. The Dragonkin Soldier roared, summoning arcs of blue lightning that wreathed its body. The initial explosion dealt massive lightning damage and inflicted the chilling Frostbite status. I scrambled back, feeling the cold bite into me. ⚡
Transformed, the boss became a storm incarnate. It gained new, terrifying abilities:
-
Lightning ground slams that created expanding shockwaves.
-
Ranged lightning spears it would hurl across the arena.
-
Enhanced melee combos now crackling with frost and lightning.
The fight became a desperate rush. I closed the distance, knowing that staying at range was a death sentence. I poured every ounce of strength into my attacks, trying to stagger it before it could unleash its full fury. The key was aggression—dodging through the smaller lightning bursts to land critical hits on its core.
Finally, with one last, mighty blow, the titan crumbled. It dissolved into light, leaving behind 12,500 Runes and the powerful Frozen Lightning Spear Incantation. The victory was sweet. Beneath the giant, seated statue at the room's rear, a treasure chest held a Great Ghost Glovewort, a rare item for strengthening my spectral allies. My journey through the Ainsel River was complete, a descent into darkness that ended in a storm of glorious, frozen light.
