Surviving Elden Ring Nightreign's Great Hollow Shifting Earth Event
Elden Ring Nightreign Forsaken Hollow DLC’s shifting earth event transforms Limveld with new bosses, crystal terrain, and strategic challenges.
Last week in 2026, I finally carved out time to dive back into Elden Ring Nightreign. The Forsaken Hollow DLC had been sitting in my library since release, but I had not really explored its new shifting earth event. My excuses were weak. When I finally loaded into the Great Hollow, I realized I had been missing something special. The entire world of Limveld changes. Jagged crystals replace the usual terrain. Dangerous enemies patrol every path. One enormous crystal towers over the center of the map like it owns the place.

Before I could even see that crystal, I had to unlock the event. The Great Hollow is not available from the start. I already owned the Forsaken Hollow DLC as part of the Deluxe Edition, so at least that box was checked. But the game still kept it locked. It wanted me to defeat Tricephalos first. That boss fight took me three attempts and a lot of patience. After Tricephalos finally fell, the Great Hollow appeared as a shifting earth event I could manually select in the special store outside of Roundtable Hold. It felt like earning a new door into Limveld.

My first run was a disaster. I dropped into the map and immediately walked toward the wrong fortress. I did not know any better. The bottom right fortress is home to high-level enemies and multiple bosses, including Godrick and the Gaping Dragon. They dismantled my team before we could even react. I sat there watching my health bar disappear while my squadmate shouted something I will not repeat here.
That is when I actually studied the map. The Great Hollow has several key locations that you need to understand if you want any chance of surviving.
| Location | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Bottom right fortress | High-level enemies, Godrick and the Gaping Dragon bosses |
| Upper left fortress | Multiple Omenkillers that hit extremely hard |
| Crystal Markers | Show resonance crystals used to break the Crystal Curse |
| Large purple crystal near center | Becomes accessible after breaking enough resonance crystals |
| Northern stadium | Hosts different night two bosses |
| Teleporters on both sides | Connected for fast travel across the map |
| Center crystal area | A world boss usually waits there |

I quickly learned to save the fortresses for the second day. The enemies there deal too much damage for a fresh spawn. Instead, I started clearing smaller camps. Weak enemies gave me runes and gear. By day two, my team was strong enough to push into the fortresses without instantly dying. That simple change in pacing saved our run.
But the Great Hollow is not just about fighting. It has its own bonus objective, and it is tied to the giant crystal in the center of the map. While exploring, I started noticing purple resonance crystals scattered around. At first, I ignored them. Big mistake. Each one can be interacted with. The first time I touched one, a message told me that the great crystal cracks. I immediately understood what the event wanted me to do.
I spent the next few minutes hunting down more of those purple crystals. It was not easy. Enemies lingered near some of them. One crystal sat on a high ledge, and I nearly fell trying to reach it. After I interacted with five resonance crystals, something amazing happened. The colossal crystal in the center of the map shattered. The sound was incredible, and the visual was even better.
To reach the center, I had to cross the horizontal crystals connected to it. I moved carefully. At the center, a glowing light was waiting. Interacting with it gave me the Great Hollow Shifting Earth Bonus, a passive buff that lasted for the rest of the run.

That buff made a huge difference. We survived the night two boss in the northern stadium. The teleporters on either side of the map saved us more than once when the storm circle started closing. I finally understood why the Great Hollow is so loved by Nightreign players.
If you try this event in 2026, my advice is simple. Bring a patient team. Avoid the fortresses early. Hunt down all five resonance crystals. Use the teleporters to stay ahead of the circle. The Great Hollow is beautiful, but it is just as deadly as anything else in Elden Ring Nightreign. I cannot wait to run it again.
