I licked a wall in Elden Ring Nightreign so you don’t have to. Well, technically you do have to, because the Undertaker Remembrance won’t finish itself, and the game is very committed to this bit. It’s 2026, the Nightfarers are still causing chaos, and I’m here to walk you through the abbess’s quest with as much dignity as a person can muster while slurping night corruption off masonry. Spoiler: not much dignity.

The Undertaker Remembrance is mostly straightforward, except for one step that is aggressively wrong. The objective says “Search for the Scholar in Limveld”, which sounds helpful until you realize the Scholar is actually in The Great Hollow event. That’s technically Limveld-adjacent, in the same way that a basement is technically part of the house. So if you’ve been combing the normal map like a lost tourist, stop. I’ve made the mistakes so you can avoid them.

First, as with all Nightreign Remembrances, you need Memory Fragments. I ran a couple of Tricephalos expeditions as the Undertaker, which unlocked Chapter 2 and then Chapter 3, where the first Remembrance quest begins. You don’t need to be a hero about it—just play the character, earn fragments, and let the story unfold.

Chapter 3: Murder, Apology, Wall-Licking

Enter the Remembrance and you’ll find yourself in a room with the Iron Menial. Speak to him, and he immediately turns hostile, whips out knives, and tries to shank you. Rude. Kill him, then work your way through the Roundtable Hold and murder the other Nightfarers. It’s a family reunion, Elden Ring style.

Here’s the hit list:

  • Kill Executor just outside the door to the room.

  • Kill Guardian and Recluse in the main room with the roundtable.

  • Kill Wylder near the Visual Codex.

  • Kill Raider and Ironeye in the DLC chapel.

After that, you’ll wake up in the chapel and can speak to the Iron Menial again to apologize. He accepts, presumably because he also tried to stab you first. Then comes the part that made headlines: squash the purple orb on the wall behind where the Iron Menial was, and lick the wall. Yup. The Undertaker is a nun who started consuming night corruption, and the Scholar watches her do it. I’m not here to kink shame. I’m here to provide accurate gaming instructions.

Next, find the Scholar in the grounds of the Roundtable Hold—he’s marked on the map—and speak to him. He explains he’s leaving the hold in search of something and gives you the Leather Monocle Case relic. It has:

  • [Undertaker] Physical attacks boosted while assist effect from incantation is active for self

  • Extended spell effect duration

  • Physical attack up +2

That first passive sounds like gibberish, but it basically means the relic is about self-buffing with Sacred Seals, either via weapon enhancement or HP/damage negation spells. It leans into Undertaker’s high Faith stat, prolongs those spells, and gives you extra attack while they’re active. Once you’ve finished speaking to the Scholar, exit via the nearby portal to complete the chapter.

Chapter 5: The Scholar Is in The Great Hollow, Not Limveld

After another couple of Memory Fragments and expeditions, you’ll unlock Chapter 4 and then Chapter 5. Enter the Remembrance and:

  • Speak to Duchess and exhaust her dialogue.

  • Offer a prayer in the DLC chapel.

  • Speak to the Iron Menial.

He’ll explain that a new Shifting Earth event has occurred—The Great Hollow—and that the Scholar is probably chilling out there. You’ll get the objective “Search for the Scholar in Limveld”, which is absurdly inaccurate. He isn’t on the Limveld map. He’s in The Great Hollow map. Launch an expedition with the event active. If the event is no longer around, remember that you can activate any Shifting Earth event using Sovereign Sigils at the sigil store, provided you’ve beaten an Everdark Sovereign to unlock it.

Once in The Great Hollow, head to the big castle in the northwest of the map (the one with the red flag icon). Since there are Fire Knights and enemies up there, read these instructions before you start moving—you won’t have time to stop and scroll.

  • Head to the main entrance to the castle, then go left around the outside until you find the jump pad marked on the map.

  • Jump up onto the balcony and go through the door on the left.

  • Jump up onto the specimen hanging from chains in the centre of the room and head right onto the rafters to find a hole in the wall you can go through.

  • Follow the corridor to find the Scholar trapped in a big crystal. Interact with him to take the Primal Core.

You don’t have to complete the expedition for this to count, but make sure you don’t quit out. Just die to the first night boss and you can return to the hold with the objective still complete. Then speak to the Scholar back in the DLC chapel to get the Night-Hued Glass, Bundled Paper, and Undertaker’s Chalice when you exit the Remembrance.

Chapter 6: The Secret Ending Steps Nobody Tells You

Once you’ve completed Chapter 5 and reached Chapter 6, you’ll have to do a few things to finish off her Remembrance and get her special skin. These aren’t guided parts of the Remembrance—you just have to know they exist. Here’s the checklist:

  • Defeat Heolstor while playing as Undertaker in the Night Aspect expedition.

  • When you enter the Roundtable Hold ending sequence, you’ll find you have the Dismembered Finger item in your inventory.

  • Head to the corpse you activate to end the game, but instead of activating it, discard the Dismembered Finger next to it—literally drop the item near the corpse as you would with a weapon you don’t want. If you’ve done it right, Undertaker will say “That will do.”

  • Activate the corpse and finish the game.

When you return to the Roundtable Hold, you’ll have unlocked the Remembrance skin—the key difference being that Undertaker has a different necklace—and the Glass Necklace relic, which has:

Passive Effect
[Undertaker] Activating ultimate art increases attack power Boosts damage after using your ultimate
Successive attacks boost attack power Rewards aggressive combos
Ultimate art auto charge +3 Faster ultimate recharge

With that, you’ve completed the Undertaker’s Remembrance. You murdered the entire Roundtable Hold, apologized, licked a wall, rescued a Scholar from a crystal, and dropped a severed finger next to a corpse. And they say video games aren’t educational. Now go do the Scholar’s quest—assuming you still have the stomach for it. 😅
